Bias in the media

ENTERTAINMENT AND RACE

How can the Hollywood machine change course in order to fix deleterious views of minorities? One way is to address the lack of diversity behind the camera. Increasing the number of minority talent agents, talent scouts, directors, and the like, can increase the number of minority actors. Funding for movies by directors of color and incentive programs geared towards supporting diverse filmmakers are other ways the entertainment industry can increase minority representation on the silver screen. An increase in movie production education, filmmaking, cinematography, acting, and direction at our nation’s HBCUs would also increase diversity on both sides of the camera.
